'23 Vista Cruiser

The basis is the Beverley Hillbillies truck, which was based on a '21 Oldsmobile roadster. As Oldsmobiles were the same from '21 to '23, and since the first woodies came out around 1924, I've taken the liberty of calling this a 1923 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. The wheelbase has been extended, and the frame lowered. The hood, the body behind the front seat, and the rear fenders are all scratchbuilt.

The wooden components are light oak shelf-edging veneer.

The engine is a small-block Chevy out of a '55 Chevy pick-up, with a vertical front blower set-up built around a blower and carbs supplied by Joe Demicoli. The model isn't quite finished: plumbing and detail to the carbs, the blower right-angle drive, the radiator, the overdrive unit on the bellhousing, drive shafts before and after the central transmission, and the right-angle drive to the inverted military-style rearend are still lacking. So is most of the rear suspension and a number of body details. The aero screens on the cowl are makeshift, and will be replaced with more delicate items in due course.

The front wheels are from a cheap 1:18 toy motorcycle, trimmed down. The front axle is the "stock" Beverley Hillbillies item, narrowed, drilled, and foiled.

The rear wheels are Centerline Convo Pro's also supplied by Joe Demicoli, with pro-street tyres from Dan Barten, who also sent me the Beverley Hillbillies kit and several other kits from which parts were taken. Thanks to both.
