Scalleywagon
Yearrrgh! Ye swabs ‘ad better keep a weather-eye open, because me Scallywagon be pullin’ into a port near ye! With a fine teak deck made of the finest lumber decals from AMT, it’s ready to haul that Jolly Rodger-sourced anchor down to the pier. The helm sports a nautical-style steering wheel and a cutlass-hilted custom aluminum shifter, and Slippery Arts provided the upholstery decal that really carries the theme through the interior.

The chrome was stripped from the grille shell and was molded to the body before it was filled with a carefully trimmed piece of photo-etched aluminum mesh. The tailgate, cut loose and re-positioned, was hand-lettered with the name of the car, and a custom-printed license plate was added to the roll pan below.

Paint on the ex-Ice ‘T’s main body is Tamiya Blue-Violet over coated with Plasti-Cote Classic Pearls Sapphire, while the twin gas tanks sport a couple of deep, shiny coast of Tamiya Gloss Black. The roof was separated from the main body, a wedge chopped out of it, and then was painted with Floquil Black Primer before receiving a good rubbing of “nose grease” to give it a vinyl-like luster.

The engine is nearly straight from the kit, though I drilled the heads, and wired in a billet aluminum distributor with vacuum advance. The kit’s scoop was replaced with turned aluminum velocity stacks with super-fine stainless screens from D&J. The stock kit suspension supports wheels, tires and brakes from a Maisto die cast, which also gave up those sporty twin-tip mufflers seen under each flared rocker panel.
