Chi*Town Shaker
by Rob Riley
this kit started out as the 67 plymouth gtx that t.d. did the box art and decals for.
I cut the rear 1/4 panels off, and moved the wheel wells forward a little over 1/2 inch. I used super glue to re-attach the 1/4 panels, and automotive spot putty to fill in the cut lines. I cut the chassis, and moved the whole rear section forward so the rear end would be centered in the new wheel well location. I started out with the kit supplied rear end and leaf springs in the stock height position...but it was too low.I took that rear end out (breaking the leaf springs along the way) and I used a rear end from a Dodge Challenger. I heated the leaf springs and re-arched them, to jack up the reared. the slicks are real rubber with ribbed sidewalls from my parts box. the front axle is an old funny car item with coil over springs, and I moved it way forward, and added radius rods from the switchers sedan. the wheels are from my parts box, and they look like rockets, or astro supremes..not sure. the engine is the kit supplied hemi, with some parts box m/t valve covers. the blower, blower drive, 2 hole injector, and scoop also came from the parts box. i painted in-between the ribs of the valve covers, blower and scoop with competition orange, same as the engine color. the headers are kit supplied and painted flat white. I set the engine back as much as I could without having to cut the firewall.
I cut the back seat area off the interior, and made up plastic sheeting to look like aluminum sheet (painted aluminum) to fill in the removed area. the roll bar is made from a piece of coat hanger and painted aluminum also. the rest of the interior is flat black. I used the kit supplied yellow panel insert decals, and added some racing sponsor decals as well. the "chi-town shaker" decals by slippery arts were applied right over the yellow panel decals. the paint is gray primer /filler, krylon copper for a base coat, krylon translucent orange, and testors clear lacquer. hope you like this one...
this car took about 4 days to build start to finish.
