"My First Nascar model"
After 40 plus years of assembling model car kits, this is actually the very first Nascar model I can remember ever building.
One of the resolutions I made this year was to finish up some of the unfinished projects on my table. I actually started and assembled all the underpinnings on this back in the early part of 2001. It sat in "white" since then waiting for paint and graphics.
The base kit is the Revell~Monogram Lake Speed Cartoon Network channel Taurus with Slixx decals for the Kevin LePage driven TV Guide / Primestar #16 car from late 1999. (if my research is correct). I'll be the first to admit that I'm as stupid as a stone about anything to do with Nascar. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a drag race fan.
So, why this particular car did I chose to replicate? Well, my son Jason works for TV Guide. And this is for his desk at work.
Paint is Leon Tefft's Cobra Colors red over Duplicolor white automotive paint. The chassis is primer gray.
Kit Impressions: Like I mentioned, I don't know too much about Nascar, so this kit could be dead on accurate, and then again, I wouldn't know if it wasn't. The kit assembles well, but I was disappointed with the poor fit of the kit windows. The windshield actually snapped in two right where the center bar is (luckily) while I was trying to bend it into shape.
Decal Impressions: These are micron thin. Luckily I had 2 sets and was able to double up on the number 16's on the sides and top. As they cover red and yellow, that showed through the ultra thin white. I haven't been able to locate a picture of the real car with this paint scheme, so I can only trust that the Slixx illustrations are correct.
